Chiar si acum in vremuri moderne, cand tehnologia a cunoscut o evolutie uimitoare, corpul uman continua sa fie o necunoscuta pentru specialisti, din multe puncte de vedere. Corpul omenesc poate adaposti o o gama infinita de maladii.
Iata si un top al celor mai ciudate boli din lume:
1. Diprosopus (foto 1) - Este o malformatie rar intalnita in care fatul prezinta fata dubla. Mai exact, este vorba despre o persoana care are un singur trunchi si membre normale, dar prezinta grade diferite de duplicatie a fetei. Cei care sufera de o astfel de malformatie au sanse extrem de mici de supravietuire. Lali Singh, nascuta in 2008, este unul dintre putinii bebelusi care a supravietuit doua luni de la nastere. Micuta a murit din cauza unui atac de cord.
2. Fetus in Fetu (foto 2) - Barbatul din imaginea alaturata este Sanju Bhagat, in varsta de 36 de ani, din India. In 2006, indianul, chinuit de dureri abdominale, a mers la doctor si a aflat ca nu are o tumora in abdomen, ci fragmente (picioare, maini, unghii si par) din corpul fratelui sau geaman, dezvoltat anormal in trupul sau. Fenomenul, care in termeni medicali poarta denumirea de “fetus in fetu”, este extrem de rar (au fost inregistrate mai putin de o suta de cazuri in intreaga lume) si poate aparea o data la 500.000 de sarcini.
3. Sindromul Proteus (foto 3) sau boala omului elefant se manifesta prin dezvoltarea excesiva a extremitatilor, pana la dimensiuni gigantice. Cel mai cunoscut caz a fost cel al circarului Joseph Merrick, nascut in secolul XIX. La el, boala si-a facut aparitia inca de la varsta de 5 ani. Din pacate, la varsta de 27 de ani s-a sufocat in timp ce dormea si a decedat. Medicii nu au descoperit nici pana acum un tratament pentru aceasta boala. Au fost confirmate numai 200 de cazuri de la descoperirea oficiala a bolii in 1979.
4. Sindromul Moebius (foto 4) - este denumirea data unei boli neurologice congenitale rare, a carei caracteristica clinica este paralizia faciala periferica. Exista in jur de 80 de cazuri documentate in Spania si 200 in Anglia. In Europa se nasc cu acest sindrom aproximativ 300 de copii in fiecare an.Cauzele producerii lui sunt inca necunoscute. Oamenii care se nasc cu acest sindrom nu au expresii faciale deoarece nervii faciali nu sunt dezvoltati. Ei nu pot zambi, nu se pot incrunta, nu isi pot misca ochii in lateral si nu isi pot controla pleoapele. Uneori sunt gasiti dormind cu ochii deschisi. Intampina mari probleme in alimentatie si in alte activitati care necesita muschii faciali.
5. Sindromul Hutchinson-Gilford Progeria sau imbatranirea prematura (foto 5) - este o boala genetica extrem de rara, care cauzeaza schimbari fizice asemanatoare in foarte mare masura cu imbatranirea prematura. Din pacate, nu se cunoaste inca nici un tratament. Bolnavii de Progeria au o medie de viata de aproximativ 13 ani si rar traiesc mai mult de 17 ani. Cea mai inaintata varsta inregistrata a fost cea de 29 de ani. Copiii care dezvolta aceasta boala imbatranesc de 6 pana la 8 ori mai rapede decat oamenii normali. Malformatia nu se mosteneste de la parinte la copil, ci este cauzata de o mutatie genetica.
6. Cutaneous Porphyria (foto 6) - este vorba despre o malformatie ce se caracterizeaza prin deteriorarea excesiva a pielii, aparitia unor pete pe brate si maini si printr-un exces de par. In timp se observa hipertricoza, decolorarea urinii, pigmentarea fetei de tip melasma, alopecie cicatriciala si leziuni similare scleredemului. Evitarea soarelui este principala profilaxie a fotosensibilitatii. Trebuiesc evitate alcoolul, estrogenii. Legendele spun ca aceasta boala ar avea o stransa legatura cu varcolaci si vampiri.
7. Elephantiasis (foto 7) - aceasta boala afecteaza 120 de milioane de oameni pe plan mondial si este cauzata de viermii paraziti, dar transmisa de tantari. Cand o femela tantar infectata inteapa un om, aceasta ii si injecteaza viermele (Wuchereria, Brugia), care foloseste corpul ca si gazda pentru foarte multi ani. Persoana infectata nu simte nimic decat dupa mult timp, iar cele mai intalnite simptome sunt cresterea excesiva a membrelor. In unele zone ale Etiopiei cam 6% din populatie sufera de aceasta boala. Este una dintre cele mai intalnite malformatii.
8. Fibrodysplasia Ossificans Progressiva (foto 
– exista aproximativ 300 de cazuri in lume. E o boala autosomala dominanta. Sunt implicate genele care sintetizeaza factorii de crestere ososi. Orice rana care afecteaza tesuturile de legatura (muschi, ligamente si tendoane) are ca rezultat formarea unui chist osos dur in jurul zonei afectate. In multe cazuri, ranirile accidentale pot “ingheta” incheieturile permanent. Chisturile osoase nu pot fi indepartate cu ajutorul chirurgiei, deoarece asta determina organismul sa “repare” zona operata, procesul de osificare fiind si mai intens. Cel mai cunoscut caz este cel al lui Harry Eastlack.
9. Boala Lewandowsky-Lutz (foto 9) - este o boala genetica extrem de rara. Se manifesta prin cresterea unor excrescente cheratinoase, in special, pe maini. A fost numita dupa doctorii Felix Lewandowsky si Wilhelm Lutz, cei care au diagnosticat-o pentru prima data. Primele manifestari ale afectiunii apar inca din copilarie, iar in acest moment nu exista un tratament pentru ea.
